Establishment of a Brewery in the Prefecture of Chios | ||||||||||||||||||||
This investment concerned the creation of a brewing company. This enterprise is not only the sole brewery in the prefecture of Chios, but also one of the few in the whole of Greece and is, thus, an innovative proposal for the market. Beer is always bottled unfiltered and unpasteurised in order to completely preserve the flavour and characteristics of true beer. In the summer of 2012, the beer was available in most restaurants and bars on the island and was welcomed by the local community. In September 2012, the beer was first 'exported' from Chios to select locations in the largest cities of Greece (Athens, Thessaloniki, Larissa, Volos, Patras, Kalamata, etc.). The immediate plans of the enterprise include exports beyond Greece and, more specifically, to neighbouring Turkey. First contacts have already been made with Turkish entrepreneurs and there is a great interest. It is imperative to increase production capacity, as this has been the only factor, to date, restricting company sales. In early 2013, investments were made in order to increase the productive capacity of the enterprise and to hire new staff. This entrepreneurial action contributes to the expansion of the local product market and to the added value for local and regional development. It can serve as a model for similar actions in a different geographical/organisational environments, while it also ensures mechanisms for the continuation of the action after the end of the initial financing.
