CENTRAL GREECE PET INDUSTRIAL & COMMERCIAL S.A. | ||||||||||||||||||||
The enterprise was founded in January 2004 for the purpose of constructing a plant for the manufacturing of food packaging materials made of PET. More specifically, the enterprise developed the two-stage process of producing food packaging jars and was the first enterprise in our country to begin producing single-use 10-litre and 18-litre bottles that are mostly used in water coolers. The products manufactured by the enterprise are divided into the following basic groups: a) 0.25lt to 10lt jars for the packaging of foodstuffs such as olives, pickles, etc. b) 0.33lt to 18lt bottles for the packaging of water, beverages, oil, milk and other products. c) preforms for the production of packaging bottles with a similar capacity that are provided to enterprises that can manufacture bottles using their own machinery. On an annual basis, the enterprise processes 1,700 – 1,900 tonnes of raw material. The processing of these materials results in products of corresponding weight. Of the three basic product groups produced, approximate 40% represents the production of bottle preforms, 32% the production of jars and 28% the production of bottles. The co-financed investment plan concerned the following actions: a) purchasing a plastic injection machine and a 48-cavity cap mould. With this equipment, the enterprise will vertically integrate its manufacturing process, as it will expand to the production of caps for packaging bottles, which it could not produce due to lack of suitable equipment; b) purchasing a metric system through which the enterprise will try to reduce production costs by eliminating the production of defective products; c) acquiring and installing a customer relationship management (CRM) information system; d) participating in the 'Food and Beverages' exhibition for the purpose of enhancing the promotion of its products; e) developing, installing and certifying a Single Quality Assurance System under ISO 9001:2008 and ISO 22000:2005 for the purpose of reducing production costs and upgrading the quality of the products manufactured, as well as the other operational processes of the enterprise. The implementation of the investment and the Community aid, in turn, contributed towards: a) increasing the production capacity of the plant b) increasing turnover from cap sales to over 200% c) significantly reducing customer complaints that were due to cap quality and delays in the execution of orders. Finally, it should be mentioned that the realisation of the investment was the starting point for the entry of the enterprise in the production of sport caps, which had never before been produced in Greece; this is expected to directly lead to the substitution of imports of this products.
