The Greek specialist in electrical manufacturing, EMM. KOUVIDIS S.A. set up a new investment plan that helped to establish a new production line of double wall corrugated conduits and a new 3D CAD software. Based in Heraklion, Crete, EMM. KOUVIDIS S. A. is co-funded by the programme 'Manufacturing under the New ConditionsΆ of the ΅Operational Programme Competitiveness and EntrepreneurshipΆ in the category ΅Existing Small and Very Small EnterprisesΆ.
This call for state aid projects was the incentive for Emm. Kouvidis SA to set new goals that involve gaining access to new technological developments, tools and equipment, in order to produce new innovative and competitive products, reduce energy costs and expand its extroversion and environmental protection initiatives. Following its inclusion into this funding programme, the company utilized the new multilayer, co-extrusion pipe technology which allows each wall (layer) to have different characteristics depending on the intended use. This technology gives the possibility to a wide range of new products to be developed adapting to the different needs of the local and international market. Additionally, the company integrated to its product development procedures a new 3D CAD software. The specific software offers tools for 3D mechanical design, moulds design and simulation tools for the product optimization design. This leads to higher quality products as well as in a serious reduction of the total production time. Mr Kouvidis said: “The project has led to substantial improvements in product quality while introducing new and innovative products in the market, which are still not used or produced by competition in Greece. It also helped improve the quality of the technical procedures and services provided by the company as well as its profitability. Thanks to the funding, the company has been able to effectively introduce new technologies, innovative tools and equipment that increase production and reduce production costs. The new equipment is moreover more energy efficient and has a minimal environmental impact. Furthermore, the funding mentioned above has helped develop the local economy by enabling the company to retain existing staff members as well as create new job openings.”
