The action concerns the provision of vocational Counselling, Training and skills accreditation to individuals who are unemployed or at risk of unemployment in the Industrial Zone of Piraeus, with a view to upgrading their vocational skills and establishing the conditions for trainees to reacquire jobs based on the current and future requirements of the labour market.

The beneficiaries were 1,500 individuals who were unemployed or at risk of unemployment in the industrial sectors of the broader area ofPiraeus. The training courses had a duration of 240-hours  including 112 hours of specialised training depending on the specialization of each trainee (see below the nine programme's  specialisations), 100 hours of horizontal training and 28 hours of practical training. The Programme included also 10 counselling sessions for each beneficiary of which, 6 were individualized and 4 were group sessions. The process of certification of the knowledge and skills of those  trainees that successfully completed the training programmes, was under ISO/IEC 17024 and was conducted by an accredited certification agency in the following specialisations:

• Machine Technician
• Milling Technician
• Metal Cleaning Technician
• Insulating Technician
• Woodwork Technician
• Piping Technician
• Refrigeration Technician
• Welding Technician
• Automation and Control Automation Maintenance Technician

There are already indications that there have been some placements in new jobs in shipbuilding and repair facilities abroad.

A significant number of Piraeus enterprises were activated for the successful implementation of the programme, empowering  the interest of local entrepreneurs in reliable and more “smart”  programmes that will  help fight unemployment and  empower the efforts for growth.

The Programme has modern curricula that meet the needs of the local economic activity. of Piraeus and correspond to the prospects being created within the upgrading of the Port of Piraeus. Shipbuilding and repair, as well as associated sectors, play a significant role in the growth of the Port of Piraeus, so they can directly be benefit from the Port's development.
