The goal of the project is the development and construction of a Mammogram Ultrasonic Tomography system based on MUT technology. The end  product of the project is the 'Multi-mode Ultrasonic Tomography' (MUT) system, which aims at improving the identification ability at the early stages of breast cancer (sensitivity) and at reducing the number of false detections (specificity), as well as freeing patients from exposure to X-rays and the painful compression of breasts during the examination. 

The new mammography system is based on the capability of 3D depiction of high resolution (in millimetres) and the automated / algorithmic characterisation of the depicted tissues based on the form of the relative attenuation of ultrasounds (as they penetrate the specific tissue) as a coefficient of frequency. Ultrasounds have enjoyed broad clinical use over the last 50 years and are considered to be the safest medical imaging method.

Within the framework of the programme titled 'Development and support of new highly knowledge intensive innovative enterprises (Spin-off and Spin-out)', the company has developed three original systems for collecting clinical data from volunteers, under the supervision of the physician in charge and his associates.

Through the above process, the beneficiary company aims at perfecting the MUT system and at its acceptance by the medical community (radiologists, oncologists, specialised breast units), in order to market an integrated, patented system suitable for installation in hospitals and diagnostic centers.
