AGROSTIS - Agricultural Information Systems Ltd. | ||||||||||||||||||||
Agrostis is a new IT company founded in 2012 in Thessaloniki, with a view to providing IT and new technology products and services exclusively to the primary sector (Agriculture - Stockbreeding). Agrostis combines technical knowledge and extensive experience in the fields of Agronomy and Information Technology. The project concerns the creation of an information system for the management of agricultural holdings, using models - cultivation protocols and best agricultural practices. Its technical specifications are based on cloud computing technology. The application has been developed as a cloud-based web application. The service will be fully accessible from mobile devices as a mobile smartphone/tablet application. The marketing model is Software as a Service (SaaS) on a subscription basis. This model simplifies and makes possible, in technical-financial terms, the procedures for the acquisition, training, support and upgrading of software that, by its nature, is addressed to such a dispersed population of users involved in agricultural and farming activities. Furthermore, the project includes operational expenditures for the establishment of the enterprise in the I4G Incubator, promotion expenditures, studies and market surveys for the use of the information system and systems used in Greece (primary research), expenditures for the certification of management systems under ISO 9001:2008 and expenditures for recruiting specialised scientific staff for the development and promotion of innovation. Despite the difficulties of the present-day economic and business environment, it is important that a new enterprise has been established and is active in IT applications in a dynamic sector of the economy (primary production), providing an important tool that helps farmers utilise their agricultural holdings. Despite the innovativeness of the endeavour and the conversion of the idea into business innovation with simultaneous commercial utilisation, the project constitutes a good practice as regards the correct method of its management by the shareholders and its positive impact on the market, the growth of the local economy and the promotion of the enterprise as a growing, dynamically developing start-up enterprise, fully achieving the 'New Innovative Entrepreneurship' objective of EPAN II. The company has already concluded important agreements with client-users of this innovative product. wedsite: http://www.agrostis.gr/
