Greek PM calls on Arabs to invest in his country
Greece's prime minister called on Arab countries Thursday to invest in his debt-saddled nation, promising new business opportunities as Greece makes changes to cope with the economic crisis.
The Greek government is struggling with an unprecedented debt crisis that has roiled markets and sparked fears of broader contagion in Europe.
George Papandreou told dozens of Arab businessmen and officials that as his country implements reforms, there will be opportunities for new businesses in sectors such as tourism, high tech communication and information technology.
Better known for tourism, greece hosts a number of world-class science and techology centers, including Corallia, an Athens based Cluster Initiative with the target of boosting competitiveness, entrepreneurship and innovation, through cluster-development support activities.
"Greece is changing rapidly. We are determined, and in this course of change we invite you all to join us whether it is visiting Greece or investing in Greece or whether it is working with Greece on common projects," Papandreou said at the two-day Arab Economic Forum in Beirut.
